I’m going to live in the arena…

At 60, my life cracked wide open. After 27 years of marriage, I found myself divorced and devastated. The years that followed weren’t any kinder — I lost my dearest friend to ALS, said goodbye to my dog of 18 years, battled a back injury, and worst of all, I lost myself.

But here’s the thing about hitting bottom: eventually, you start to climb. Slowly, I rebuilt. I bought a little red Volvo (as an f-You to my ex…too much to unpack here), I landed a full-time career at 65 (yes, they do still hire us!), found financial stability, joined a health club, started traveling again, and most importantly — began piecing together my heart and soul.

Graybellion started as a little Instagram experiment when I decided to let my hair go naturally gray. That choice felt like more than a style decision. It was independence. It was strength. It was rebellion.

This magazine is the next chapter. It’s where I remind myself — and anyone else who’s listening — that we get to choose joy, feel all the feelings, and live fully no matter what number shows up on the cake. I’m not ready to stop. I doubt you are either. I started Graybellion as a helpful manual to live courageously, by documenting experiences and feelings of all kinds, exploring topics of interest that may feel slightly taboo at our stage in life.

And here’s one more thing: you won’t hear me use the word “aging” here. Not because I’m ashamed of the years I’ve lived, but because it’s a word that has been twisted into something small, frail, and limited. That’s not us.

Graybellion exists to smash the tired stereotypes — the stock photos of gray-haired folks with canes, sitting in a recliner . We are travelers, entrepreneurs, creators, lovers, rebels. We’re living life in bold, bright color.

So if you’re ready to step out of the box, shake off the rules, and live a life that’s still filled with wonder and joy, welcome to Graybellion.

Let’s Go!

I’m going to live in the arena. I’m going to be brave with my life. I’m going to show up.
